In 2014, Aaron and I met at work in Atlanta. Aside from some shy flirting, we were just friends and coworkers. That all changed when our company transferred us to Charleston in November of 2015. A few weeks after moving, we went out at the Windjammer on Isle of Palms to grab a drink and listen to live music. That night changed everything, and we quickly realized how much we had in common and what a great time we had together. We have barely spent a day apart since!
In February of 2018, we went to Asheville for a weekend getaway and to tour the Biltmore house. At the beginning of the tour, I was admiring the beautiful gardens when I turned around and Aaron was on one knee. I was completely shocked – I was hoping a proposal was coming soon, but we hadn’t talked about it at all. Of course, I said yes, and Aaron had planned an amazing brunch and wine tasting, and we spent the rest of the day at the Biltmore celebrating.
Our wedding day was perfect! We got married at Dunes West Golf and River Club, under a huge live oak tree, overlooking the picturesque low country marsh. We held the ceremony shortly before sunset so guests were able to watch the sun go down over the water. Then, it was time for dinner and dancing inside the clubhouse. The night ended with an amazing sparkler sendoff!
We tried to incorporate lots of personal touches throughout the ceremony. I walked down the aisle to “How Long Will I Love You” from one of our favorite movies, “About Time”. Aaron built the aisle stands for our flowers and they are on our patio as a sweet reminder of the day. We wrote personal vows to each other in addition to the traditional vows, which I am so glad we did.
The food and drink was the best part! For dinner, we chose Southern comfort food staples like Fried Chicken and Waffles, Shrimp and Grits, and a Mashed Potato Bar. Instead of a traditional cake, we had an interactive cupcake bar where guests could choose their own flavors, frostings, and toppings. It was a huge hit! Our signature cocktail was a Moscow Mule, our absolute favorite drink as a couple. We even brought in our favorite ginger beer to make it truly “us”.
